A unique experience for Dick Lovett Ferrari Apprentices

A unique experience for Dick Lovett Ferrari Apprentices

Allowing young people to learn the skills required to work in the automotive industry via apprenticeship programmes has always been a core part of the Dick Lovett philosophy.

Now, at Dick Lovett Ferrari Swindon our Apprentices are taking part in a unique project to completely restore an iconic classic Ferrari with the aid of a Master Technician.

The car the team are working on is a Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino. The 308 GT4 was first unveiled at the 1973 Paris Motor Show and carried just the Dino badge, as was then customary for Ferrari models not fitted with a V12 engine.

The car was revealed as the second model in the Dino brand, a 2+2 addition to the Dino 246 GT. The wedge-shaped styling was penned by the legendary Marcello Gandini at Bertone, and as a result is drastically different to the sleek, beautiful lines of the Pininfarina designed, Dino 246 GT.

The Dino name was retained until the end of 1976, afterwards the model adopted the Ferrari nameplate to give the car a wider appeal.

Whilst the car presents in good condition, the Apprentices are completely restoring the car back to its former glory. Our team are involved with tasks such as disassembly and reassembly, body and paint work, mechanical repairs as well as sourcing and installing replacement parts. Due to the nature of the restoration and rebuild of this classic Ferrari, the Apprentice team will learn more traditional workshop techniques such as welding and panel beating.

The project has already begun, and the car is currently stripped down with all parts catalogued ready for restoration and enhancement. We will bring additional updates as the project progresses throughout the year.
